If you come to an ACORN action for the first time, you might be surprised to find that ACORN staff arent running the show - or even present!
We use distributed, grassroots community organising to run adaptive, locally-driven campaigns in our communities and cities. ACORN's small team of paid staff supports teams of community leaders, members and activists running their own groups and campaigns across the UK.
We think inequality and our personal and social problems are about power. We believe that the only way we’ll see meaningful action is if we can counter the power of money and big politics with the power of people taking collective action.
To build that power, our organisers and volunteers chat to thousands of residents and workers, in shopping parades, living rooms and cafes, listening to concerns and connecting people who share those concerns to build new ACORN groups and take action.
ACORN is both a movement and an organisation. We involve everyone, from the core Full Members who chip-in small change, become leaders and run the organisation, to the Network Members who have taken action, told their story or helped spread the word.
We support, train and coach leaders to bring in friends and neighbours, run meet-ups and workshops, plan campaigns and actions, run public meetings and negotiate with decision makers.
And we use online tools to increase and leverage that power, to help people see themselves as one movement, and to facilitate strategic offline action.
