Imagine a Bristol where you weren't bribed £500 to be able to move house.
Imagine a Bristol where renters living in poor conditions felt secure enough to speak out and get their homes repaired. Imagine a Bristol where families could move into a property and know that they weren't able to be kicked out at 2 months notice, forcing kids to change schools.
That's what we - 12,000+ renters and Bristol residents - are fighting to win.
Bristol was recently voted the best UK city to live in and our city is famous for its sense of community. But let's not pretend that everyone here has the same quality of life. We should be leading the way, making sure that all of us have access to quality, affordable, stable housing.
ACORN are partnering with other local organisations and agencies to promote a new approach to rented housing in Bristol, believing that an ethical approach is good for the city, good for business and good for all of us.
The Bristol Ethical Lettings Charter.
The Bristol Ethical Lettings Charter is a declaration of decency and a statement of intent, to help create a fair, professional and ethical private rental sector in our city.
The Charter urges landlords and letting agents to commit to Gold, Silver or Bronze standards on the key issues of concern to renters:
- Security of tenure
- Costs and access to housing
- Repairs and quality of housing
In return ACORN will ensure that renters know who they are and turn to them for housing.
Letting agents and landlords have already signed up and the scheme has been supported by Bristol City Council, MP's, national and local charities, student organisations and thousands of Bristol renters.
