Following a campaign supported by thousands of local people, ACORN members have won Bristol City Council’s support for Ethical Lettings across the city. The Council is now consulting on whether or not to extend landlord licensing to Eastville and St George West.
A register of landlords is vital for protecting tenants, improving living standards and rooting out slum landlords. In Easton the scheme has stopped illegal eviction, improved living conditions, given the Council the power to inspect all rental properties and closed down drug dens and human trafficking operations.
When the Easton scheme was proposed it was almost scuppered by landlords and letting agents organising to oppose it. We can’t risk this happening now: tenant voices must be heard.
Landlord licensing will:
- Reduce Tenant Exploitation
- Reduce pest infestations and fly-tipping
- Improve dangerous and poorly kept properties
- Make Landlords and Agents more accountable
We the undersigned, petition Bristol City Council to protect the welfare of private tenants and support more stable communities by introducing landlord licensing in Eastville and St George West
